Have all your files, photos, videos, music albums and important data stored in one central location with robust backup solution. Zyxel NAS542 is a professional-grade 4-bay network attached storage that can be equipped with four hard drives with up to 12 TB capacity each, totalling massive 48 TB storage capacity. The NAS unit attaches to your home network through two fast Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports for increased transfer rate. It also includes several USB ports for easy data transfer from e.g. USB drives or portable hard drives and SD memory card for backing up photos and videos directly.

RAID or JBOD?
When you equip the NAS with two hard drives, you can choose to organize them in a RAID array to back up your data or increase transfer speed, or use JBOD solution that uses all available capacity for data storage.

Maximize speed
RAID 0 mode focuses on speed - it scatters the data across both hard drives, reducing the access time and transfer rate significantly.

Create a secure backup
RAID 1 mode is an ideal backup solution - it creates a mirror image of all the files saved on the first hard drive, so that they are available from the other hard drive in case of failure.

Combine capacity and security
With RAID 5 and RAID 6 modes, the data is scattered across all of the drives to increase read and write speeds. One (RAID 5) or two (RAID 6) of the drives are used to keep a security checksum. This allows the NAS to calculate and reconstruct data in case one (RAID 5) or two (RAID 6) drive units fail.

Hot spare
RAID 5 Plus mode keeps one drive unit inactive as a backup solution. In case of failure of one of the active drives, the spare drive replaces the failed unit and the data is reconstructed there.

Maximize redundancy
RAID 10 mode combines the features of 0 and 1 modes - the data is scattered across two drives, and there is a mirror copy created on the other two drives. This halves the available capacity, but increases the transfer rate and lets the NAS reconstruct any data loss very quickly.

Maximize capacity
JBOD stands for Just a Bunch Of Disks - meaning that all of the drives are treated as one large storage unit that can have up to 48 TB capacity. This does not provide any acceleration or backup solution.

App control
When you connect the NAS to your WiFi router, you can use Zyxel mobile app to back up photos and videos from your smartphone or tablet instantly, create your personal cloud storage and stream the media saved on the NAS right from your mobile devices.

It contains practical leather strap, so you have an option to hang the node and elevate its position for better signal reception. Sleek rounded corners, stylish compact body and X-shaped status LED makes it look more as a part of your home styling than just another electronic device. Capable on its own but even better as part of WiFi Mesh system because with multiple nodes you can get super-fast and stable wireless connection for entire household.

Extend the coverage
Combine additional nodes (available separately, up to 6) to create a huge powerful WiFi network which uses a single SSID name and password to log on. Through seamless connection, you can roam through the entire covered area of up to 170 m2 without experiencing drops or lag.

Mobile app
Zyxel offers a free mobile app for Android phones and iPhone, so you have full control over the network in your hands.
